Emotional Freedom Technique (also called Tapping) is a simple technique that has profound effects on your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health! This technique is based on the ancient Chinese energy system of the meridians. The Chinese Meridian system is equivalent to our circulatory system. There are a series of meridians--like blood vessels-- that carry our Qi (or life force energy) throughout the body. This energy gives life to our physical body and emotional body. Different meridians feed different organs just like our blood vessels offer blood nutrients to different organs and parts of the body. If there is a blockage in the meridian, then it stops or slows down the flow of Qi or energy and the part of our system that was supposed to receive that energy is deficient. This can lead to emotional problems or physical problems. Acupuncture uses needles to attract the energy to a particular point in order to remove the blockage and get the energy flowing again. Emotional Freedom Technique focuses on key meridians that affect energy flow throughout the entire body. Similar to acupressure, it uses the tapping of the fingers on those key meridian points to remove a blockage and get energy flowing again.
Tapping and the Brain
Studies at Harvard Medical School has shown that stimulating the body's meridian points (as Tapping does) you can significantly reduce the activity of the Amygdala. The Amygdala controls the levels of cortisol and other stress hormones in the body.
Another study done by Dr. Dawson Church showed that Tapping significantly reduces cortisol levels in the body. Cortisol is a stress hormone that reduces the ability to think, reduces digestion, makes our breathing more shallow, all so we can fight (or flee, or freeze) for our survival.
Too much cortisol in our systems is leading to a lot of health problems. We weren't designed to live in a constant state of stress. Those that don't manage their stress will see a variety of health issues resulting from the high levels of cortisol consistently in their system.
